External Sleeve Drain
Republic Oil Tools Tubing External Sleeve Drain (ESD) is a full-bore, inside-diameter, pressure-actuated sleeve drain designed to facilitate fluid drainage from the tubing and avoiding the need to pull it while wet.
Typical applications include Rod Pumps and Permanent Magnet Motor ESPs.
In the rod pump configuration, the ESD is deployed above, in conjunction with a Hydraulic Set Anchor that maintains tension in the tubing. Prior to the workover, the ESD is sheared, allowing the fluid to drain and the Hydraulic Set Anchor to relax, enabling the removal of the tubing and rod pump.
In the PMM-ESP configuration, the ESD serves as a fluid path of least resistance to prevent the permanent magnet motor from spinning. This offers a reliable alternative to perforating the tubing string, which can damage the motor lead extension or power cable.
Regardless of configuration, the ESD is fully redressable and offers a variety of options tailored to the specific application.
